Speeder bike racing is a simple yet addictive ‘sport.’ It uses Xbox Live and Star Wars Battlefront [but can be done with Playstation 2 Online]. For this activity, you need:

  • Xbox video game console/ PS2 game console
  • Xbox Live Internet service/ PS2 Online service
  • Star Wars Battlefront video game [by Lucasarts]
  • Lots of online friends who have nothing to do [and are willing to stand around and count speeder bikes]
  • Patience... lots and lots of patience...

To start a speeder bike race, gather all of the speeder bikes in a level (or other vehicles that you want to race, e.g.: STAP, combat speeder, AT-St, AT-AT, AT-TE, spider walker, AAT, tauntaun, kaadu, etc.). When you have gathered them all, assign some of the people who do not have vehicles to go to either command posts or checkpoints on the course that you wish to race on. They are there so that a racer cannot just go around in a little circle and declare victory. Each racer must pass each checkpoint. The two checkpoints that are important, though, are where the race starts and finishes. At the starting line, each racer must be accounted for and at an equal distance from the first checkpoint. At the finish line [which may also be the starting line, if you have multiple laps] you must have a person willing to be hit by a vehicle [and run over]. The first racer to hit that person wins [yes, I know it’s kind of sick...].

Little facts concerning speeder bike races:

  •  All players must be on the same team [so that team chat can work]
  •  Not all vehicles can run a person over, so the finish line guy must be aware of who hits him/her first
  •  Each race should have enough people for all of the checkpoints and all of the total number of vehicles being raced put together
  •  To race, you must set the match to no AI [so that there are no computer controlled players on the map]
  •  When racing, all racers should have the same vehicle; any racer who does not comply is disqualified, and should be booted from the race
